Abstract

THE EFFECT OF THE OUTDOOR LEARNING  METHOD ON THE WRITING SKILLS OF NEWS TEXTS FOR GRADE XI STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 1 PANCUNG QUESTIONS

This study aims to describe: First, to determine the level of news text writing skills of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Pancung Soal using the outdoor learning method. Second, to determine the level of news text writing skills of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Pancung Soal without using the outdoor learning method. Third, to analyze the effect of the outdoor learning method on the news text writing skills of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Pancung Soal. This type of research is quantitative with an experimental method. The research design used is One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The population in this study were class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Pancung Soal registered in the 2025/2026 academic year with the number of students being carried out using a purposive sampling technique based on the average value of the odd semester mid-year of students in 2025/2026. The data in this study are the scores of the news text writing skills test of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Pancung Soal through a posttest on class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Pancung Soal. The research instrument was a test. In this study, a performance test instrument was used, namely a news text writing skills test. Data were analyzed using percentage formulas, arithmetic mean formulas, data analysis requirements tests, and t-tests. The results of this study are threefold. First, the news text writing skills of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Pancung Soal before treatment were relatively the same, namely the experimental class was in the Almost Sufficient (HC) qualification with an average value of 45.31, and the control class was in the Less (K) qualification with an average value of 42.83. Second, the students' procedural text writing skills after learning showed that the experimental class taught was in the Very Good (BS) qualification with a value of 88.93, while the control class taught using discovery learning was in the More than Sufficient (LdC) qualification with an average value of 72.91. Third, based on the results of the independent sample t-test, the t count was 9.10 and the t table value was 1.99 at a significance level of 0.05 with degrees of freedom (dk) = 62, so that t count (9.10)> t table (1.99). Thus, the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the outdoor learning method can be used as an alternative in improving the news text writing skills of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Pancung Soal.
