Abstract

The Effect Of Project-Based Learning With Audiovisual Media On Students’ Biographical Writing Skills

This study was motivated by the low level of students’ ability in writing biographical texts, particularly in terms of content development, language use, and spelling accuracy. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the Project Based Learning model assisted by audiovisual media on the biographical writing skills of tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Lintau Buo. This research used a quantitative approach with an experimental method, employing a one-group pre-test post-test design. The sample consisted of 36 students selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected through a performance test in writing biographical texts and were analyzed using normality test, homogeneity test, t-test, and N-Gain Score. The results showed that the mean score of the pre-test was 65.54, which increased to 84.29 in the post-test. The hypothesis testing indicated that tcount (9.15) was greater than ttable (1.99), meaning that there was a significant effect of the applied model on students’ writing skills. Furthermore, the N-Gain analysis showed an average score of 0.53, which fell into the moderate category, indicating a meaningful but not yet optimal improvement. In conclusion, the Project Based Learning model assisted by audiovisual media had a positive and significant effect on improving students’ biographical writing skills, although its effectiveness had not been fully optimal for all students.
