Abstract

SELF-EFFICACY AND ACADEMIC STRESS: A CORRELATIONAL STUDY OF PHARMACY STUDENTS AT MULAWARMAN UNIVERSITY

Abstract. Students face various academic demands in their studies. This is also often faced by pharmacy students. A busy class schedule, assignments, practical work, exams, and other activities are sources of pressure for pharmacy students that can trigger academic stress. These high-demand learning conditions make self-efficacy an important factor that will determine the direction of pharmacy students' learning and academic conditions in their studies. This study aims to examine and analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and academic stress among students of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Mulawarman University. Self-efficacy in students affects the learning process and how students deal with academic challenges that can cause academic stress. This study used a quantitative method with subjects consisting of students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mulawarman University, class of 2023 and 2024. This study was conducted using a quantitative approach with 100 student respondents selected through non-probability sampling techniques. The results showed a significant negative relationship between self-efficacy and academic stress among students, indicating that the higher the academic stress, the lower the self-efficacy. Low self-efficacy among students has an impact on their academic performance, which tends to decline and become poor, leading to a lack of confidence in their ability to complete assignments, theses, or other projects.
