Abstrak

Correlation of Reading Comprehension Skills with Biography Text Writing Skills of Class X Students of SMA Negeri 1 Tigo Nagari, Pasaman Regency

This study was motivated by students’ low reading comprehension and writing skills in text-based learning, particularly in biographical texts. The study aimed to describe students’ reading comprehension skills, biographical text writing skills, and the correlation between both variables among tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tigo Nagari, Pasaman Regency. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach. The sample consisted of 75 students selected through random sampling. Data were collected using an objective reading comprehension test and a performance test in writing biographical texts. The data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and Product Moment correlation tests. The findings showed that students’ reading comprehension skills were categorized as fair with an average score of 77.33, while their biographical text writing skills were categorized as good with an average score of 82. The correlation analysis indicated a positive and significant relationship between reading comprehension skills and biographical text writing skills with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.32. These findings indicate that reading comprehension skills contribute to students’ ability to write coherent and linguistically appropriate biographical texts.
