Abstract

STUDENT MANAGEMENT IN DEVELOPING STUDENTS' RELIGIOUS CHARACTER

Vocational secondary education is expected not only to produce graduates who are competent in their technical skills but also to develop the religious character of students amid social and digital challenges. In this context, student affairs management becomes a strategic instrument to systematically, planfully, and sustainably foster character development, particularly at SMK Ma’arif NU 02 Kemiri Purworejo. This study aims to analyze the implementation of student affairs management in shaping students’ religious character through the functions of planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising. A qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design was employed, and data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document studies involving the principal, vice principal for student affairs, Islamic Education teachers, Guidance and Counseling teachers, homeroom teachers, student organization advisors, and students. The findings indicate that program planning is contextually designed, taking into account students’ spiritual needs, developmental stages, and the dynamics of the digital era. Noble values, such as honesty, responsibility, and politeness, are integrated through a religious activity calendar and observable behavioral indicators. Organization of the program is carried out through clear division of roles, formalized in organizational documents, and collaborative coordination among school elements. Implementation is routine and continuous, including daily worship, weekly activities, a persuasive-dialogical approach to violations, integration of faith and piety values in vocational practice, and the use of digital media. Supervision is educational, involving behavior monitoring, religious activity logs, regular evaluations, and communication with parents. Although student affairs management contributes positively to the formation of students’ religious character, challenges remain, such as the influence of social environment, digital media, limited facilities, intensive vocational practice, and the time required for character development to be internalized.
