Abstract

DIRECTIVE SPEECH ACTS AND TEACHER SPEECH STRATEGIES IN LEARNING INDONESIAN LANGUAGE IN GRADE VII AT UPT SMP NEGERI 4 PAINAN

Directive speech acts are a type of speech act that aims to influence, direct, or control the actions of the interlocutor to do something according to the speaker's wishes. Directive speech acts consist of five forms, namely ordering, requesting, suggesting, demanding, challenging. The use of directive speech acts is closely related to the speech strategy chosen by the teacher. Speech strategy is a method or way used by teachers in selecting and using speech appropriately, effectively, and efficiently to achieve communication goals in the learning process. Speech strategies are grouped into five types, namely the strategy of speaking frankly without small talk, the strategy of speaking frankly with small talk (positive politeness), the strategy of speaking with small talk (negative politeness), the strategy of speaking vaguely and the strategy of speaking silently or silently. The type of research used in this study is qualitative. The method used in this study is descriptive. The purpose of this study is to analyze directive speech acts and speech strategies used by teachers in learning Indonesian language for class VII at UPT SMP Negeri 4 Painan. The results of the study indicate that the most frequently used directive speech act is asking questions, while the least frequently used is the directive speech act of advising. The most frequently used speech strategy is the speech strategy with positive politeness.
